To understand how some fossils are formed. For this lesson, children focused on making a mould fossil.
These formed when an organism sinks to the sea floor and is pressed into layers of sediment. When the layers build up and the pressure increases, the sediment turns to rocks. When the organism then rots away and disappears, a mould fossil impression is left.
