Pupil Premium

What is it?

The Government introduced the Pupil Premium Grant in April 2011. The Pupil Premium is allocated to children who are known to be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM), service children, adopted children and children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months. This also includes pupils eligible for FSM at any point in the last six years (known as the Ever 6 FSM measure). The grant, which is additional to main school funding, is seen by the government as being the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free schools meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers, by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.

How is the money used?

Schools can decide how the Pupil Premium is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils at their school. We support our pupil premium pupils this by providing high quality teaching in all classes, supplemented by interventions to support or challenge learners as and when required. The Headteacher and Governing Body regularly monitor the impact of spending including the Pupil Premium.

Working with families

We believe that the best way to understanding children's needs is to work with families. If your child is eligible for pupil premium support the school will contact you to arrange a meeting with the class teacher to explore ways in which the funding can best be used to support your child. These may be academic needs or enrichment opportunities. This initial meeting will be followed up by two further meetings in the year to see how things are and what else could be done.
